Dear Councillors
Tomorrow is a fork in the road. The choice, simple. Choose to work with the community or against it.
I write in my personal capacity as a resident of Bonnyrigg, not as chair of Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council or Chair of Bonnyrigg Centre Trust.
Your officers have exaggerated financial flaws to justify recommending demolition. This is a grave error in judgement. It could have led to you making a catastrophic decision to demolish the builidng. Thank fully there will be evidence by 6pm today that the financial flaws identified by your officers can be fixed with professional input.
You are Democracy in action. Represent the views of the people of Bonnyrigg. Be in charge and be the balance to the officers power.
Please don’t accept the recommendation from your advisers to demolish. Instead, choose a preferred bidder and give the community 6 months to apply for grant funding.
Your officers are wasting valuable time and resources with their competitive hands off approach. Accept no more excuses or delays. Weigh carefully everything said to you by them about Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre because there is evidence of a pattern of grave errors in judgement over the last 3 years.
Therefore, bite the bullet, save us all a lot of time, money and grief. Accept the offer of Bonnyrigg Centre Trust Ltd to take ownership of the site on condition that they raise the funds within 6 months.
Remember, the people of Bonnyrigg are not going to go away.
They live here.
Darius
