This building should be passed over to the community. There have been too many buildings, and amenities lost to this community in the past, such as the 2 libraries, the snooker hall and the sportsbar where teenagers could play pool and snooker. In the past we also had a dance hall, a picture house, tennis courts and putting greens. Nothing of this sort now. The centre of Bonnyrigg is at risk of becoming a ghost town with only the same sort of food stores, hairdressers, estate agents, betting shops etc being available and for some people no real reason to go into the shopping centre at all. For a town the size of Bonnyrigg it should not be all about building houses, especially right in the centre of the town and especially when there is so much building ongoing at Hopefield..
This council is too quick to sell and to demolish with no thoughts about what it is doing to the town itself. Moving all facilities to LASSWADE/POLTONHALL was not a clever move either.
You have a chance to do the right thing now by allowing people who have the best interests of this town and it's inhabitants, irrespective of their age, at their core. Maybe then people will have a reason to visit the town and the park and be able to pursue interests rather than just sport.Maybe teenagers will have somewhere to hang out. Some decent shops would not go amiss either. Councillors please take a look at the state of the shopping centre. The only shops worthy of a mention are Byers and Bonnyrigg Flowers.
Please play fair with the people who are trying to improve and keep decent facilities in Bonnyrigg. It does not do this council any favours by being awkward and constantly putting time restraints and obstacles in their way.
Please remember that the elections will again happen and I'm afraid the cost cutting fiasco of this present council could quite possibly be your downfall. (remember the proposed closing of the public toilets)
Too many things that have happened lately have appeared to be very underhand. The very fact that the Leisure centre was to be demolished was a big surprise. Add to the fact that 1 library was sold with undue haste and the other demolished before anyone knew what was happening leaves a very bitter taste.
You have a chance to redeem yourselves by doing the right thing for this group of people who have this town and all the inhabitants at it's heart.
This town is watching and waiting.
